Several families have been left without shelter after a fire destroyed residential houses in Kapsoya Estate, on the outskirts of Eldoret City in Uasin Gishu County.

The fire broke out on Tuesday, October 6, in an area opposite Mary’s Kapsoya, sending residents into panic as flames spread through the houses.

Residents said the blaze consumed several homes and destroyed household goods and other belongings. Some families were forced to flee their houses as the fire intensified.

The affected residents also raised concerns over the response of the fire brigade, claiming firefighters arrived late after the blaze had already spread to several houses.

Residents said a quicker response could have helped contain the fire and reduce the extent of the damage.

The cause of the fire remained unknown as authorities began assessing the situation. There were no immediate reports of deaths or serious injuries linked to the incident.

Neighbours also joined efforts to put out the flames and stop the fire from spreading to nearby homes.

The incident has left affected families counting losses and searching for temporary accommodation as they begin to recover from the destruction.

Residents have called for improved emergency response services in Kapsoya, saying densely populated residential areas require fire services that can respond quickly whenever an outbreak occurs.

Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the fire and establish the full extent of the damage caused by the blaze.
