President William Ruto has congratulated Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed following his re-election for a second term, describing the decision as a vote of confidence in his leadership and vision for the country.

In a message shared after Ethiopia’s House of People’s Representatives re-elected Abiy, Ruto wished the Ethiopian leader success as he continues to steer the country through its transformation agenda.

“Congratulations my brother, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, on your re-election to lead Ethiopia for a second term,” Ruto said.

The President said Abiy’s new mandate reflected confidence in his leadership and the direction he has set for Ethiopia.

“Your new mandate by Ethiopia House of People’s Representatives is a vote of confidence in your leadership and vision you have for your country,” Ruto added.

Ruto further wished Abiy success as he begins his new term, while highlighting the close relationship between Kenya and Ethiopia.

“I wish you continued success as you lead Ethiopia to achieve its transformation agenda,” the President said.

He also pledged Kenya’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Ethiopia during Abiy’s second term.

“Kenya looks forward to continuing working closely with you to advance our shared interests for the mutual benefit of our peoples, our region and the wider global community,” Ruto said.

Abiy’s re-election places him at the centre of Ethiopia’s efforts to pursue economic and institutional reforms while addressing challenges facing the country.

Kenya and Ethiopia maintain close diplomatic and economic relations and have continued to cooperate on trade, regional security, infrastructure and cross-border development.

The two countries are also key players in regional affairs, particularly in efforts to promote stability and economic integration in the Horn of Africa and the wider East African region.

Ruto’s message signals Nairobi’s intention to maintain close engagement with Addis Ababa as both countries pursue their national development priorities and regional interests.
