Wanted Suspect Arrested After Attacking Police in Busia

Police in Busia County have arrested a wanted suspect after he allegedly attacked officers with a panga during an attempt to apprehend him in Butula.
The incident occurred when officers from Bumala Police Station were called to reinforce their colleagues at Murumba Police Post as they moved to arrest 36-year-old Stephen Ouma Okinda.
Okinda had been wanted since last week following an alleged assault on his father. Police had also attempted to arrest him on September 23, but he reportedly resisted arrest while armed with a panga and threatened officers at the scene.
When officers returned to arrest him, Okinda allegedly confronted them with the weapon, resulting in a struggle.

Officers responded by firing shots as they attempted to protect themselves and bring the suspect under control.
During the confrontation, Okinda allegedly struck and damaged a G3 rifle belonging to one of the officers, cutting the firearm into two pieces.
The officers eventually overpowered him and arrested him.
Okinda was taken to Bumala Police Station, where he was placed in custody pending further investigations and processing on charges arising from the alleged assault and confrontation with police.
Constable Atinya was taken for medical treatment following the injuries sustained during the incident.
