Vozinha Reveals Cost of Sudden World Cup Fame

Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha says his life has changed dramatically since becoming one of the standout revelations of the 2026 World Cup.
The goalkeeper told The Observer that the sudden attention has cost him much of the peace and privacy he enjoyed before the tournament.
“I have lost my peace and tranquillity. I don’t have privacy anymore, or at least much less than before,” Vozinha said.
He said ordinary activities such as going to restaurants or walking in public have become difficult because of the attention from fans and members of the public.
“Now when I go out or to a restaurant, there is always someone asking for a photo or an autograph. Or even worse, someone filming me,” he said.
Vozinha also revealed that his World Cup performances attracted interest from several companies and brands seeking commercial partnerships.
He said he accepted only one promotional deal during the tournament, with UFL Mobile, choosing to remain focused on football while Cape Verde competed on the world stage.
The goalkeeper added that he currently has no plans to work with tobacco, alcohol or betting companies.
“For now, I don’t want to work with tobacco, alcohol or betting brands,” he said.
Despite the increased recognition and commercial opportunities, Vozinha said he would prefer the quieter life he had before his breakthrough at the World Cup.
“To be honest, if I had to choose between the life I have today and the life I had before, I would choose the life I had before,” he said.
His comments highlight the less visible side of sudden sporting fame, with increased public recognition bringing commercial opportunities alongside a loss of privacy.
Vozinha emerged as one of Cape Verde’s notable figures during the 2026 World Cup, helping draw international attention to the country’s football team and its players.
