Eldoret National Polytechnic Shines in Global Sustainability Ranking

The Eldoret National Polytechnic has been recognised among institutions making progress in environmental sustainability after emerging as Kenya’s leading TVET institution in the 2026 UI GreenMetric World University Ranking.The polytechnic was ranked 82nd in Africa and 1,547th globally in the latest assessment, which was announced in Baku, Azerbaijan.The ranking places TENP among thousands of higher education institutions assessed for their efforts in promoting sustainable practices within their campuses and academic operations.The UI GreenMetric World University Ranking was established by the University of Indonesia in 2010. The 2026 edition covers institutions from 110 countries and evaluates their sustainability performance using seven key areas.These include infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water conservation, transportation, education and research, and governance and digitisation.TENP Chief Principal Dr Charles Koech said the recognition reflected the institution’s efforts to maintain a clean and environmentally responsible learning environment.“This is a testament to our commitment to a green, clean and sustainable learning environment. Congratulations to the entire TENP family,” Koech said.He recognised the contribution of the Board of Management, staff, students and the wider Eldoret community towards the institution’s progress.Koech also credited the national government for its support for higher education, particularly the TVET sector.The polytechnic currently has more than 20,000 students and has continued to attract local and international delegations interested in learning from its academic programmes and institutional operations.The latest international recognition comes amid other achievements by the institution.In April, TENP students and tutors returned from Nyeri with 17 trophies after participating in the Kenya National Drama Festivals.Koech, accompanied by senior managers, received the trophies and led celebrations at the institution.He said the results demonstrated the institution’s growing success in co-curricular activities alongside its academic programmes.The GreenMetric ranking adds an international sustainability distinction to the polytechnic’s recent achievements as it continues to expand its role in technical and vocational education in Kenya.
