Several people were reportedly trapped inside a car after a truck overturned and landed on the vehicle along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway near Kiboko on Saturday.
The crash left the smaller vehicle badly damaged, with members of the public rushing to the scene to help rescue those trapped inside.
The number of occupants in the car and their condition had not been immediately established at the time of reporting. It was also unclear whether the accident had resulted in any fatalities.
The circumstances that caused the truck to overturn were yet to be established.
The crash disrupted traffic along the busy highway, with motorists experiencing delays as rescue efforts were carried out.
The incident comes days after another fatal crash along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway near Taru and Mackinnon Road. The September 23 accident involved a Dreamline bus and a stationary trailer, leaving two people dead and six others seriously injured, according to the Kenya News Agency.
The latest crash has renewed concerns over road safety along the busy Nairobi-Mombasa route, which serves thousands of motorists and commercial vehicles travelling between the two cities.
Authorities and road users continue to urge motorists to exercise caution, particularly along sections of the highway prone to heavy traffic and accidents.
