Oscar Sudi Sets Sights on Fourth Term in Kapseret

Kapseret MP Oscar Kipchumba Sudi is positioning himself for another term in Parliament as political activity begins to intensify across Uasin Gishu County ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Sudi, who first won the Kapseret parliamentary seat in 2013, is serving his third consecutive term and appears keen to extend his stay in the National Assembly for another five years.
His political journey in Kapseret has seen him successfully defend the seat in the 2017 and 2022 General Elections, establishing himself as one of the most influential politicians in Uasin Gishu and the wider Rift Valley region.
The lawmaker has also remained a close political ally of President William Ruto and a vocal supporter of the Kenya Kwanza administration.As he prepares for the 2027 contest, Sudi says his focus remains on development and improving the welfare of residents rather than pursuing politics for personal gain.
“My vision and plan is to implement programmes that impact positively on the lives of our people. Leadership is about the people and not selfishness,” Sudi said.
The MP has been associated with empowerment programmes targeting residents and organised groups in Kapseret. Through various initiatives, beneficiaries have received equipment and other resources intended to support businesses and create income-generating opportunities.
Among the items distributed through such programmes are posho mills, motorcycles and vehicles to individuals and groups.
Education is also expected to remain a major component of Sudi’s agenda as he seeks another term.
The MP has said he wants to support the construction and renovation of classrooms and improve learning facilities in schools across the constituency.
He has also pledged continued support for needy students through scholarships and other education programmes, while placing emphasis on initiatives targeting young people and women.
Security and infrastructure are other areas Sudi has identified as priorities. He has pointed to efforts to expand security infrastructure, including police posts and stations, as part of measures to improve safety in the constituency.Road construction and rural electrification have also featured prominently in his development agenda.
Beyond Kapseret, Sudi has participated in peace-building initiatives in other parts of the Rift Valley.In 2019, he was involved in efforts to promote peace in the Kerio Valley following a period of insecurity and attacks involving communities in the region. He brought together leaders, elders and young people from the Pokot and Marakwet communities in an attempt to promote dialogue and reconciliation.
With another election approaching, Sudi has again emphasised the need for political leaders and their supporters to maintain peace.“I cherish peace and unity and that is why I always ask Kenyans to remain peaceful even as we head to the elections. I don’t want to see a repeat of previous violent incidents which affected this country,” he said.
The remarks came during a church meeting in Kapseret attended by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on August 30, 2026. The interdenominational service and fundraiser also provided a platform for discussions on politics and the approaching election.
Sudi’s political career predates his election to Parliament. According to his account, he previously worked in the transport sector before venturing into business and becoming involved in political campaigns in the former Eldoret South constituency.
His involvement in grassroots political activities enabled him to build networks before he eventually contested the Kapseret parliamentary seat in 2013.Since entering Parliament, Sudi has also served on several House committees, including the Departmental Committee on Lands and the Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee.
However, his bid for a fourth term is unlikely to be uncontested.Several aspirants have already been linked to the Kapseret race, including John Chumba, Pauline Tuwei, Emmanuel Kemboi, Sylvia Metto and Frank Murgor.
The emerging competition reflects the growing political interest in Uasin Gishu as politicians begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.The final line-up, however, is expected to depend on party nominations and the subsequent clearance process by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
For now, Sudi retains the advantage of incumbency and a political network built over more than a decade in elective politics.A Kapseret resident, Joseph Brett, expressed confidence that the MP would retain his seat but acknowledged that every aspirant has the democratic right to contest.
“We are in a democratic country and everyone is free to vie in Kapseret like in other areas. However, those seeking to face off with Sudi should know that their effort is like cutting a Mugumo tree using a razor blade,” Brett said.
As more aspirants declare their intentions and political parties begin preparing for nominations, the Kapseret contest is expected to attract increasing attention.
The coming months are likely to determine whether Sudi can maintain his dominance in the constituency or whether emerging challengers will succeed in turning the 2027 parliamentary race into a serious political battle.
