Harry Kane is on the verge of extending his stay at Bayern Munich, with negotiations now down to one final detail — how long the new contract should run.
German publication Abendzeitung reports that the Bundesliga champions have offered the England striker a two-year extension that would keep him at the Allianz Arena until 2029. Kane’s camp, led by his father Pat and brother Charlie, is pushing for a three-year deal until 2030. Sources indicate Bayern are not keen on a compromise deal of two years plus an option for a third season.
Kane, who celebrated his 33rd birthday at the end of July, would be 36 years old if his deal were to run until 2030. Even so, there is optimism on both sides that a breakthrough will be reached soon.
All indications suggest the financial terms will not be an obstacle. The striker currently earns an estimated gross salary of around €25 million per year, and consistent reports from Germany suggest that figure will remain largely unchanged in the new contract.
Speaking on Monday after returning for his first team training session following an extended break after the World Cup, Kane confirmed talks were imminent, saying they would take place “this or next week”.
On Wednesday, Bayern’s board member for sport, Max Eberl, struck a confident tone as Kane was honoured with the European Golden Shoe for finishing as Europe’s top scorer last season.
“We are super happy that he is with us,” Eberl said. “Now it is simply a matter of clarifying the details that are also part of football. But I don’t think the conditions are so bad.”
Club honorary president Uli Hoeneß echoed that confidence in an interview with RTL/Sky.
“I am pretty optimistic that Harry will extend with us, which would of course be a blessing for us. These talks usually always take a few weeks, a few months, but they are being conducted on a very good personal level,” Hoeneß said.
For Kane, there is little desire to leave. Since joining Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023 for €95 million, he has settled completely in Munich with his family and has become the focal point of the team’s attack. He feels at home at the club both on and off the pitch.
Sportingly, Bayern also offers him the best chance to finally win the biggest trophies of his career, particularly the UEFA Champions League. After securing the Golden Shoe, Kane is now considered one of the leading contenders for the Ballon d’Or, which will be awarded on October 26 in his home city of London.
Kane has already lifted the German championship twice and the DFB Cup once since his arrival. In 147 competitive appearances for Bayern, he has scored 146 goals and provided 33 assists, underlining his status as one of the most prolific strikers in Europe.
With the salary agreed and the player’s commitment clear, it is now only a question of whether Bayern will tie him down until 2029 or 2030.
