Jacob Ojee Hits New High with World Rugby Level Two Coaching Certification

Former Kenya Simbas and Kenya Shujaa speedster Jacob Ojee has reached a major milestone in his coaching journey after attaining the prestigious World Rugby Level Two certification in 15s coaching.
The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) on Tuesday announced and celebrated Ojee’s latest achievement, terming it a significant step in his transition from a decorated playing career to a promising future on the touchline.
“Former Kenya Shujaa and Simbas international Jacob Ojee has earned his World Rugby Level Two coaching certification. Congratulations @jacob_ojee on this milestone in your coaching journey,” KRU said in a statement.
Ojee, who currently serves as the backs coach at Kenya Cup heavyweights KCB Rugby Club, has been steadily building his credentials as a tactician since hanging up his boots. At KCB, he has been instrumental in sharpening the club’s backline attack, mentoring young talents and helping the Bankers remain competitive in the Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup.
The Level Two certification is a globally recognized qualification that equips coaches with advanced skills in game planning, technical and tactical coaching, player management, and performance analysis in the 15-a-side format. It is a mandatory requirement for coaches seeking to handle high-performance teams and is seen as a gateway to elite coaching roles.
For Ojee, the qualification marks the culmination of years of dedication to the sport, both as a player and as a coach in the making.
During his illustrious playing career, Ojee was regarded as one of the most gifted backline players Kenya has ever produced. Blessed with blistering pace, creativity, and sharp game awareness, he was a nightmare for defenders. He featured prominently for both Kenya Shujaa in the World Rugby Sevens Series and for the Kenya Simbas in the 15s test arena, representing the country with distinction.
He also had the honor of captaining Kenya Shujaa, where he was praised for his leadership, composure and ability to inspire his teammates on and off the pitch.
At club level, Ojee enjoyed a trophy-laden spell with KCB Rugby Club, helping the Lions’ Den outfit to multiple Kenya Cup titles, Enterprise Cup triumphs and Floodlit titles before eventually retiring from competitive rugby.
Since retirement, he has remained closely involved in rugby development, focusing on nurturing the next generation of Kenyan stars.
Stakeholders say Ojee’s progression into high-level coaching is a major boost for Kenyan rugby, which is in dire need of qualified former internationals to take up technical roles and transfer their international experience to young players.
With his new certification, Ojee now joins an elite group of Kenyan coaches qualified to handle top-tier sides and is expected to play a bigger role in the country’s rugby development pathway in the coming years.
