Enock Kipkemboi and Joy Kemuma emerged victorious in the men’s and women’s categories respectively at the Nairobi City Marathon on 7th Sunday, which attracted 17,500 athletes from 75 countries, making it one of the most competitive editions in the event’s history.
Kipkemboi delivered a commanding performance in the men’s race, taking control in the second half after a tightly contested opening stage. He gradually broke away from the leading pack and maintained a strong pace through the final kilometers to secure the title. His victory was made even more remarkable after he smashed his personal best time, marking a major breakthrough in his career and reinforcing his status among Kenya’s promising long distance
In the women’s race, Joy Kemuma showcased tactical discipline and endurance. She stayed within the leading group for most of the race before launching a decisive sprint in the closing stages. Her win marked a significant improvement after finishing fifth at the Eldoret City Marathon on 26th April, highlighting her rapid progress and growing confidence on the road racing circuit.
Race organizers praised the smooth coordination of the event and the high level of international participation. Athletes competed under favorable weather conditions, with supporters lining major sections of the course in Nairobi’s streets, creating an energetic atmosphere throughout the race.
