President William Ruto has put his money where his admiration is, rewarding Gor Mahia FC with a whooping ksh 10 million for winning the 2025/2026 Sportpesa Premier League title.
The president announced on Sunday during a luncheon at State House, Nairobi,that every member of the winning squad and technical bench will also pocket ksh.100,000 each as a personal token of appreciation.
Gor Mahia, Kenya’s most decorated club,has added another league trophy to their cabinet after tough season.The State House invite originally served as a ceremonial honor,but President Ruto turned it into a major financial boost.
“We celebrate not just the trophy,but the discipline,the sweat and the sacrifice,”the president told the room.”This ksh 10 million goes to the club.And to each player and each member of the technical bench,here is ksh.100,000 as my personal token.”
Gor Mahia supporters, known as the “Green Army,”have flooded social media with praise for the president.Many have called it the biggest government gesture towards the support of local football in years.
“Finally our champions are treated like champions,”one fan wrote.
The cash injection arrives at a critical time as the club prepares for continental assignments.
