Police detectives have arrested two suspected drug peddlers following the recovery of heroin valued at over Sh4 million in Utange, Mombasa County. The arrests resulted from a joint raid operation that included officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU), and Kiembeni Police Station.
Intelligence reports led officers to a residential house in Barawa, Kisauni Sub-County that residents had hidden behind a high perimeter wall. The search operation revealed two bedrooms containing multiple sachets of heroin which the suspects had hidden in two bedrooms and buried in a concealed corner of the compound to escape police detection.
Officers recovered 1,346 grams of heroin which they valued at Sh4,092,000. Officers discovered two items used for narcotics production namely a digital weighing scale and a drying machine, which indicated the existence of a narcotics business operation. The police have taken Tawaida Ali Said and Shamim Abubakar into custody while they continue their investigation work to prepare for the upcoming court session.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated that successful drug trafficking network dismantling requires intelligence-led operations and multi-agency cooperation to keep illegal narcotics off Kenyan streets. The DCI police spokesperson stated “Our operation success proves we will permanently fight drug problems to safeguard communities from dangerous narcotics use.”
The authorities appealed to citizens to share genuine intelligence with law enforcement agencies so they can effectively combat organized crime and drug trafficking operations running throughout Mombasa County.
