The spirit of jamuhuri day really came alive at Jesus Love Children’s Home when members of the Uasin Gishu Journalists Association, well-wishers, and the team led by Sharon Mlati spent the day spreading love, food, and hope to the children
Speaking during the visit, the Director of Jesus Love Children’s Home, Daniel Kurui, expressed deep gratitude for the gesture. “Tumefurahi sana kwamba wametukumbuka msimu wa Krismasi,” he said during the visit and showed us love that these kinds of children most often lack.”
He urged Kenyans of goodwill to remember the needy, the widows, and vulnerable children, especially during the festive season. The small acts of love remind them that they are not forgotten, he added.
The vice chair of the Uasin Gishu Journalists Association, Edmond Kipng’eno said the visit was a premeditated move aimed at closing the year in style.
“Kids are a big asset to society. Being able to spend time with them is a blessing, he said.
“We want to urge the rest of the well-wishers to also appreciate society in a similar way by choosing children’s homes. Watoto wana baraka.”
He thanked partners like Yako Supermarket who supported the initiative.
One of the visitors present, Christine Msimbi, shared how fruitful it was to have been part of Sharon’s team on the mission.
“We are really blessed. Sharon offered to bring her birthday here, and as her friends we supported her spiritually and physically. We came to thank God and show love for these children.”
She called for groups and individuals to make such acts of kindness more than one-time visits.
The highlight of the day was Sharon Mlati, who chose to celebrate her birthday not in restaurants or parties but with the children at Jesus Love.“I had a tough time during my 2023 birthday celebration, Nikaamua birthdays zangu ziwe za kusherekea na watoto hawa. Hii ni mara yangu ya pili, na nafurahia sana.“She described herself as a “big sister” to them. A Day of Blessing, Hope & Joy The visit brought smiles, laughter, and a renewed feeling of belonging to the young ones many of whom come from difficult backgrounds.
