Authorities in Naivasha have seized bhang estimated to have a street value of Ksh.2 million, following a coordinated operation led by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA). The raid led to the arrest of two people, among them a suspect believed to be a longtime player in drug trafficking within the region.

The seizure was successful following an intelligence-driven operation that was conducted by a multi-agency security team. On the basis of credible information, the officers stormed a premises suspected to be a hub for narcotics distribution. During the raid, law enforcement officers recovered a significant quantity of cannabis sativa, which NACADA described as being “carefully and deliberately packaged for market supply.”

According to the officials, the bhang was in various forms like stones, rolls, sacks, and tariffs, pointing to a highly organized distribution network. The nature of the packaging suggested that the illegal enterprise had established processing and supply routines to feed the local black market.

The police are holding both suspects apprehended during the operation in custody. Authorities also confirmed that the matter has since been handed over to the ANU Headquarters to allow for deeper investigations. It is expected that charges will be preferred against them once ongoing inquiries are completed.

This comes amid growing concern over increased drug peddling, especially during school holidays, where it is alleged that traffickers target idle and vulnerable youth. NACADA has intensified scrutiny in some hotspot areas to curtail the flow of narcotics that pose a threat to the well-being of students and society in general.

NACADA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Anthony Omerikwa issued a stern warning to dealers in illicit drugs. He warned the traffickers who usually take advantage of holiday breaks to widen their networks and recruit minors into substance abuse.

“To the drug traffickers who see school holidays as a prime time to peddle your poison and destroy our children, your days are numbered,” Dr. Omerikwa stated. He underscored that the agency is doing all it can to bring down the country’s drug cartels. “This operation sends a clear message-we are coming for you, and we will not allow the future of our next generation to be compromised.”

Authorities have repeated their resolve to stop the spread of narcotics through increasing patrols, strengthening their intelligence-sharing mechanisms, and closely working with the people in order to identify routes and dens used by traffickers. The Naivasha operation marks one of several anti-narcotics actions conducted recently as part of NACADA’s broader campaign to rid communities of substances that endanger young people and destabilize families.
