Hunger Crisis Deepens as Drone Attack Hits Sudanese Children’s Hospital

Sudan is facing a growing humanitarian crisis with severe hunger reported in some parts of the country amid escalating violence that has left several people dead. The International Food Security Monitoring Group, IPC, has sounded a warning in an urgent alert that two regions in Sudan have reached critical levels of hunger.
Famine conditions are currently affecting El-Fasher in western Darfur and Kadugli in South Kordofan, according to reports from the IPC. If left unaddressed, millions of residents in these areas risk starvation and malnutrition, adding to the already dire situation, authorities and humanitarian agencies warn.
Compounding the crisis, doctors in Sudan reported that seven people were killed in a drone strike targeting a children’s hospital, with victims including women and children. The attack drew international condemnation and raised urgent concerns over the protection of civilians and medical facilities in conflict zones. The strike has left hospitals struggling to care for patients amidst insecurity and limited resources.
The International Criminal Court has weighed in, warning that the ongoing violence in El-Fasher could amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity. The statement by the ICC highlights the possibility of accountability for those responsible in the attacks against civilians and critical infrastructure in the ongoing conflict.
