Nairobi, Kenya – 5th August 2025 – Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, welcomed Isiolo Governor H.E. Abdi Guyo to Afya House to discuss the priority health agenda for the county.
The meeting was aimed at improving healthcare service delivery and speeding up priority health programs in Isiolo.
Governor Guyo was accompanied to the meeting by County Secretary Mr. Dade Boru, CECM for Health Services Ms. Lucy Kagwiria, and Chief Officer for Medical Services Dr. Mohamud Abdikadir.
Senior officials of the State Department for Medical Services were also present at the meeting.
The meeting touched on access to healthcare and infrastructure upgrading. They talked about how to offer residents better medical services.
Dr. Oluga reaffirmed the national government’s commitment to supporting counties in healthcare strengthening. He noted that the two governments’ close collaboration is essential in the attainment of universal health coverage.
Governor Guyo welcomed the partnership and outlined his government’s plan to revamp hospitals and clinics in Isiolo. He noted that addressing staffing shortages and medical equipment is his county’s greatest priority.
The teams discussed refurbishing existing facilities, building new health centers, and strengthening referral systems. They also focused on training health workers to meet rising demand.
Both sides agreed to come up with sustainable health financing solutions. They also examined how to bring specialist services closer to the people to reduce patients’ need to travel long distances for care.
Dr. Oluga informed Isiolo leadership that the State Department will provide technical direction and coordinate with development partners to fund important projects.
The session concluded with a shared commitment to continue consultations. They plan to set up a task force to implement the decisions made during the meeting.
The collaboration is expected to improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare in Isiolo, as well as the well-being of its citizens in the long term.
