Sheikh Abubakar Bin, Vice Chair of the Interfaith Council in Uasin Gishu County, has extended heartfelt condolences to the family and church of Fr. Alois Cheruyot Bett.
He offered the message on behalf of the Muslim community after Fr. Alois was shot dead last week at Tot, Kerio Valley.
Dedicated Servant
Gunmen killed Fr. Alois while he served a small community church known as Jumuiya in Tot. Sheikh Abubakar described him as a committed preacher who deeply connected with the people.
According to the Sheikh, Fr. Alois set a powerful example through his work and had become a well-loved figure in the village.
Call for Security
In light of the tragedy, Sheikh Abubakar urged the government to invest more in local development. He called for the establishment of schools, churches, mosques, and better health services.

These, he argued, would uplift the region and reduce insecurity.Government Declares Tough Action on BanditsCabinet Secretary for Interior, Kipchumba Murkomen, responded strongly.
He announced that the government would deploy force to eliminate banditry in the region. He warned bandits to surrender their weapons immediately or face consequences.
Murkomen insisted there would be no mercy for those who refuse. He also demanded justice for Fr. Alois, urging the community to reveal the names of those responsible.
Mourning of Leaders
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang mourned Fr. Alois, praising his organised and admirable work. He described the priest’s death as a painful loss for the Nandi people.
Governor Sang questioned why anyone would target such a respected man and said the Marakwet community owed the public answers. Bishop Dominic Kimengich echoed these sentiments.
He said the church had lost a great leader and peacemaker. The bishop had previously asked Fr. Alois to serve as a peace ambassador in the region.
He emphasised that Alois’s dedication and influence made his death all the more shocking.
Justice, Peace, and the Condolences
Bishop Kimengich also shared that the Pope had sent his condolences.
He urged the authorities to pursue justice for Fr. Alois and stressed that the church would not stop preaching peace. Instead, they would double their efforts to restore calm in the region.
