Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti’s much-anticipated move to take charge of the Brazilian national team has collapsed, according to reports from Globo Esporte.
Just hours ago, it seemed almost certain that the Real Madrid boss would become Brazil’s new coach this summer. But fresh developments have put an end to those plans.
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) had identified Ancelotti as their prime candidate to lead the Seleção, particularly with the 2026 World Cup on the horizon.
Talks had reportedly advanced, with Brazil even stalling their coaching appointment in hopes of securing the Italian’s services after his stint with Madrid.
However, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has personally stepped in to block the move.
According to sources, Madrid’s board refused to pay the termination fee required to release Ancelotti from his contract, which runs until June 2026. This refusal effectively ended any possibility of the Italian taking over Brazil’s national team.
Ancelotti, 64, is said to have expected the club to cover the termination costs since they appeared ready to part ways with him at the end of this season, a year before his deal expires.
But once Perez and his team learned that an agreement was already in place between the CBF and Ancelotti, they dug in their heels, preventing the move from materializing.
This latest twist leaves Brazil once again searching for a permanent coach. Jorge Jesus, currently managing Al Hilal, has now emerged as the leading candidate to take over.
The Portuguese tactician had always been on Brazil’s radar but was considered second to Ancelotti due to the Italian’s stellar track record.
For Ancelotti, the failed Brazil switch casts uncertainty over his next move, even as Real Madrid continues to rely on his experience during their transition into a new era led by young talents like Jude Bellingham and Endrick.
