Eldoret, recently elevated to Kenya’s fifth city, has become the focal point of a special 40-day prayer initiative led by various church leaders and believers.

The initiative, which aims to uplift the city spiritually and ensure its continued prosperity, has drawn together Christians from different denominations, united in prayer for peace, unity, and progress.

Bishop Philip Rono of the United Pentecostal Evangelist Crusade, who chairs the prayer initiative, emphasized the significance of this spiritual effort.

“As the chairman of this special plan, I have been tasked with leading this mission of prayer for Eldoret after its elevation to city status,” he said. “Today marks the beginning of this journey, and we are overjoyed to see the turnout and commitment from believers.”

He expressed his hope that through prayer, the city would overcome its challenges, and that God would bring peace not only to Eldoret but to the entire country.

The prayers, which began with a large gathering in Eldoret, are part of a coordinated plan involving multiple locations across the region. “Some of us will head to Annex and Western Kenya, while others will remain here in Eldoret, praying for our city,” Bishop Rono added.

He emphasized the importance of unity among believers, urging leaders, residents, and various stakeholders to come together in prayer for the welfare of Eldoret.

“This city belongs to all of us. We must ensure that people live together in harmony,” he said, stressing that the city’s success depends on collective efforts, both spiritual and practical.

Bishop Bernard Yetu of the African Inland Church (AIC) Eldoret Area Church Council echoed these sentiments. He highlighted the unique identity of Eldoret, known as the “Home of Champions” for its production of world-class athletes and as Kenya’s “Food Basket” due to its rich agricultural output. “We have been on a 40-day prayer journey, and today is part of that,” Bishop Yego said. “Eldoret is a city of champions, but like other cities, it faces challenges. We are praying for its continued success and for God to bless our athletes, ensuring their success brings prosperity to their families and the city.”

The prayer initiative also focuses on fostering peace and harmony in Eldoret, a city that has witnessed political and ethnic tensions in the past. By gathering together, church leaders and believers hope to prevent future discord, praying for political stability and cooperation among the city’s diverse communities.

As the 40 days of prayer continue, the church leaders remain hopeful that Eldoret will thrive as a city of peace, prosperity, and unity, guided by the faith and prayers of its people.
