Kimutai Kirui a Human Rights activist with the Center Against Torture.

Kimutai Kirui is an Eldoret Based human rights activist with a vast experience in defending human rights and constitutional order.

Kimutai who works for the Centre against Torture, a Foundation that provides services across the Country, is a man who has attracted friends and foes in equal measure.

The  Human right  activist has  been vocal against  police  brutality and arbitrary arrests especially  within Uasin Gishu county, often rubbing  shoulders in the  wrong  way with the  mighty and all powerful government  officers  who would not  hesitate  to bend  the law.

His  tireless efforts  to push for the rule of law have not spared the County enforcement officers who take advantage of the existing  gaps in the law to commit  all forms of  atrocities and human rights violations ,

“We have  pushed  and  continue to push relevant  government  agencies  to have  county askaris , Kenya forest service officers and Kenya wildlife  officers answerable to the  Independent  Policing Oversight Authority in order to check on their  excesses” Opined Kimutai in an Exclusive interview with the Hubzmedia.

The  vocal Human right  activist came to the limelight after  he  successfully took to court The   County government of Uasin Gishu  over the construction of County Government offices  without proper  public  participation,

“We Took the county government of Uasin Gishu to court over construction of county offices without involving the public in 2019, Petition 1 of 2019 Kimutai Kirui VS county government of Uasin Gishu at the Environment and  lands court”The  court  upheld our persuasion on the constitutional  requirement on Public participation.

The Constitution and new legal framework place a strong emphasis on strengthening public participation, which is the process that directly engages the public in decision-making and gives full consideration to public input in making that decision. Article 118(1)(b) of the Constitution. Added Kimutai.

Kimutai Kirui has been at the  forefront in seeking Justice for  8,000 Victims of  a recruitment  agency ,The  First Choice recruitment and  consultancy which is alleged  to have  duped  the  victims over three hundred million shillings , Kimutai  led  the  victims in filing  Petitions at the Uasin Gishu County Assembly , The  National  Assembly and The Senate ,The report of the Uasin Gishu county assembly awaits implementation by the Relevant  authorities , while the Senate Labour  committee  has  commenced Investigations into the petition and is expected to interview some of the victims in Uasin Gishu,

“We must empower our  people in the  available ways  and means to  legitimately  fight  for  Justice, by doing so we breathe life to the constitution, We hope those  behind the  First Choice Scam will face  the full force of the law”Said Kimutai.

The activist has also been recognized for his endless fight to ensure justice for widows in Uasin Gishu County who continue to be disinherited under the pretext of retrogressive cultural practices as well as corrupt administrative officers.

The  human right activist who recently suffered  Cyber  Bullying and online  trolling  affirms he  does not  champion for the rights of the gay community  and neither  is  he a member of the  LGBTQ,

“They are trying to divert my attention from serious issues of leadership and good governance  that I have been advocating for including human rights, But  I want  to assure  them I will not  be deterred in this  quest ,Those who were involved in linking  me  with the LGBTQ  with an aim on attacking my character , are  being investigated” Said Kimutai.

Kimutai who is a staunch Muslim a father and a Husband, is also the Founding member and the Secretary general of the Chaptiret Mosque and is currently pursuing his Masters’ Degree.

Kimutai’s Mantra is the promotion of constitutionalism for a  Free  and just  society  for all .
