A parent in Vihiga County is demanding justice, for his 13-year-old daughter after, her teacher allegedly assaulted her, causing her bodily harm, kinda badly.
The family of the grade eight pupil at Walodea Primary School says they want action taken against the teacher, reportedly beating the girl to the point she needed treatment so her injuries can heal.
The incident, which reportedly happened on January 29, 2026, has since triggered claims of a cover up involving the school administration and also police officers.
Speaking to the Kenya News Agency, the pupil’s father Mr. Vitallis Opondo Okome said his daughter, Velma Achieng, got injuries after allegedly being beaten by a teacher identified only as Byron, while at school.
Okome explained the assault left the learner with a swollen hand, plus other physical injuries. He added that when he went to ask questions from the school administration, he was not allowed , to speak to the teacher involved, at all.
He alleged that the school head teacher, Ms. Roselyn Manono, chose another teacher to escort the pupil to the hospital, and also gave Sh1,000 towards her treatment.
Okome said the girl’s condition did not improve, so he came back to the school, and told the head teacher he was planning to report the issue to police.
He further alleged that Ms. Manono brushed off his concerns, saying she had already acknowledged the incident, and contributed towards getting the learner treated.
Later on, the matter was reported to Walodea Police Station, which then referred the pupil to Vihiga County Referral Hospital for assessment, and X-ray services too.
From what medical reports indicated, the pupil was later moved to Itando Hospital for more checks and examinations.
Okome also claimed that when the head teacher was summoned by police, she came together with a local official from the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT). He accused that official of meddling or influencing how the case was handled.
