UDA Leaders Slam Gachagua Days After President Ruto’s Successful Mt. Kenya Tour
During a week long visit to the Mt. Kenya region, President William Ruto emphasized national unity and development, pushing back against regional divisions following sharp criticism from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The tour, which concluded yesterday, was marked by strong political messaging and visible support from key leaders in Rift Valley and members of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
At a fundraiser at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kapkea, Moiben constituency,Uasin Gishu County,UDA political leaders rallied behind the President, accusing Gachagua of promoting tribalism and undermining the nation’s cohesion.
“We will not allow anyone—no matter how senior—to hold the country hostage with threats and tribal blackmail, we thank Mt Kenya people for welcoming the President” declared Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot. “I have no regrets voting for Gachagua’s impeachment. He is one of Kenya’s greatest enemies, constantly preaching division while the President is building bridges.”
Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, who initiated the impeachment motion against Gachagua, said the move was in defense of national values. “This country is bigger than any individual. I initiated the impeachment motion in the spirit of defending national values. I’m grateful that both the legislature and the judiciary upheld that move. It was the right thing to do,” he said. Mutuse also predicted a resounding re-election for President Ruto, stating,

“The President will be re-elected with a whopping 14 million votes. His competitors, led by Kalonzo Musyoka, are just making village rounds in Ukambani.”
Farouk Kibet, a senior aide to President Ruto, threw his support behind Mutuse, noting, “I want to thank Hon. Mutuse for standing up against tribalism. Gachagua had become a stumbling block to the unity of this nation.”
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii praised Mutuse’s boldness and reaffirmed continued support for President Ruto’s leadership. “We are on a mission to unite this country and drive meaningful development. Mutuse has shown courage, and we will continue to support the President,” Bii said.
Kesses MP Julius Ruto condemned former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi for allegedly violating his oath of affirmation. “It’s unfortunate that someone who swore to protect state secrets is now disclosing privileged information to the public. That’s a betrayal of trust,” he said. He also reiterated that the President doesn’t need permission to serve any region in Kenya.
Keiyo North MP Adams Kipsanai thanked the Mt. Kenya community for their warm reception, saying, “Mt. Kenya has shown political maturity by standing with the President. That is the spirit we want across Kenya—unity, not division.”
Budget Committee Chairperson Samuel Atandi emphasized that no region will be left out of the government’s development agenda. “Development is for every Kenyan, not a few. We will ensure that every region, every constituency, is part of this journey,” he said.
Atandi, Treasury Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo, and MPs Japheth Nyakundi and Julius Ruto also urged the opposition to allow the IEBC vetting process to proceed independently and without political interference.
The event underlined President Ruto’s growing base of support following the ousting of Gachagua in October 2024, and reinforced his commitment to a united, development-focused Kenya.
