The healthcare officials in collaboration with county government and other stakeholders from Uasin Gishu County on Wednesday had a meeting at Eldoret aimed at improving children immunization in the county.

The director of health from Uasin Gishu County Dr. Evans Kiprotich, said that they have developed strategies aimed at fully immunizing children in the county in order to prevent immunizable diseases

“Because at the end of the day, we want to immunize this child and we want to pass the same message to the community That immunization is safe and it protects a child from getting rid of immunizable diseases”. Kiprotich said.

However, according to Evans Kiprotich, the immunization of children in Uasin Gishu County has been slightly dropping over time despite having the vaccines, healthcare workers and the healthcare facilities.

“It’s the fact that if you look at the overall trend within the country of this fully immunized child, there is a slight decrease from 83 we used to have. And today we’ve been told, if you compare almost all the other counties, they’re mean. It’s slightly dropping Down from 73. Then we ask ourselves, why? Is there something going wrong? “Kiprotich added.

To address the issue, the officials said that they have developed interventions to make sure all children are immunized which includes creating awareness to the community.

“We need to talk about the Nyumba Kumi and how to reach every household. We need to think about how to use the community and the promoters to reach each and every other person. These are some of the things we have discussed and agreed on going forward. We need to bring all of them on board. And definitely a bigger player, the Minister of Education”. The county director for health, Evans Kiprotich said.

Also, Joshua Masai, who is in charge of immunization services In the county said that they are tackling misconceptions which has been a major issue preventing immunization services from reaching out to the children.

“Majorly it has been the many myths and misconceptions that we have been trying to counter. And like the director has said, we have come up with quite a number of strategies that he has also enumerated that we are using to ensure that we are reaching all mothers And at the end of it, it is our children that we would have reached to improve our coverage”. He stated.
