Barely four days after Eldoret officially attained city status, the Deputy Governor  John Barorot has tendered his resignation, sparking widespread speculation.

Notably, the Deputy Governor was absent during the city’s milestone event, raising eyebrows and fueling rumors.

Reports suggest that the Deputy Governor has been under significant pressure, allegedly facing resistance from junior staff within the county government. This internal friction is rumored to have contributed to the abrupt decision to step down.

“This resignation has caught many by surprise, especially coming so soon after Eldoret’s elevation to city status,” said a county official who requested anonymity. The official added, “The absence of the Deputy Governor during such a significant event only deepened concerns about ongoing internal issues within the administration.”

As the county adjusts to its new status as a city, the resignation adds to the challenges facing the local government, with many now questioning the stability and unity of the leadership team.
