Details of how parents were swindled millions of shillings have  since emerged under the current leadership of Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii.

David Saina  a parent  and  a resident of  Kiplombe in Uasin Gishu narrates  how  he came across an advertisement by the Uasin Gishu County government regarding the  Canadian  Scholarship that would  not only  enable the students  further their  studies abroad  but provide an opportunity for them to work abroad.

“Upon inquiring we were issued a short  notice, students were invited and  briefed of the  available courses  that they were supposed to apply in some of the  universities in Canada ,My son was supposed to Join Thompson Rivers  University and I paid KSh950,000  at  a KCB Bank account ,Since then my child is and remains at home without  any communication” Said  Saina.

From reliable sources we  have been informed that the money we  had  raised  as parents in the overseas  account which had close to  KSh 24M was used  by the county government to offset bills for  Finland  Students  who had  previously  been reported to be facing at an  imminent deportation due to lack of  school fees. Added Saina

Another  parent recounts how he had  to sell off his  vehicle   and  deposited Ksh1M to the said  account;he has  now  been left  penniless with his son still at home .

Amon Sawe, another parent from Kiplombe says he had to sell his 1/8 piece of land  in order to raise the  needed resources  that  would have seen the  first batch of  Canada  students  travel for their  studies by the month of May this year.

Most of the parents who paid  the monies in the  month of  August last year  have  expressed  fear of  having been duped  their hard earned money and  are now demanding a total refund having lost hope in the Canada  Scholarship program.

“After the  botched  travel plan by the month of May we  have  had  a number of meetings with the  county leadership led by Governor Jonathan Bii and His deputy Eng.John Barorot  only to receive empty promises ,We demand our  monies, My son deferred his studies  with the hopes of  travelling abroad , many of  our  children including  parents are  suffering mentally due to this  scam”Said another parent.

Hubzmedia has  since established  the second batch of the students under  the  Canada Scholarship who had  applied to join The Thompson Rivers University Between July and August,2022.

The Candidates were requested to pay school fees by 15th Sep the set deadline ,money that was channeled to the county KCB account, With a promise that they will be joining the universities of choice by Jan ,2023 intake .

Saturday March 19th, 2022 former governor and the current Uasin Gishu senator Jackson Mandago signed an agreement with  the Northern Lights College CEO Todd Bondaroff.

In November 2022 the same year Governor Jonathan Bii signed MoU’s with the same Universities with the first batch of the students under his administration expected to travel by May 2023.

The County government through the Deputy Governor Eng.John Barorot has  however refused to comment on the  sticky issues  raised by the parents claiming the matter was under  Investigations by  Sleuths of the Ethics and Anti -Corruption Commission in Nairobi.
