Uasin gishu county on the spot for disrupting transport on busy Northern corridor!
A section of leaders have criticized the county government of Uasin Gishu for the now usual habit of temporally closing the Busy Eldoret-Uganda highway ,a major maritime gateway to East Africa and most of the hinterland countries in order to allow residents follow up sporting and important events from the County’s big screen.
Taking up to various social media platforms the leaders drawn from various institutions including the clergy now claim the county’s big screen has continued to encourage misuse of public funds by the county government,
“Where in the CIDP (County integrated development plan) did the Uasin Gishu residence plan for the expenditure and blockage of the international road (Eldoret-Uganda ) to allow people follow up live events?” Paused Rev Simion Kogey.
The statement further claims such a move although it can easily be translated as a sign of patriotism and support to Kenya’s finest in the world of athletics, its neither economical nor ethical to block transportation on the busy international highway, leaders should seek an alternative.
“Arranging seats and erecting a dias on the busy highway has a huge negative economic impact across many countries not only in Kenya ,this should be discouraged”He added.
The Eldoret-Uganda Highway forms part of the Kenya Northern Corridor an important transport route to the East and Central Africa countries of Burundi,Eastern DR Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan and Uganda.
The inefficiencies of the upstream transport corridor anchored from the port of Mombasa affects social-economic prosperity of National and regional economies.
