Two Gang-Rape and Robbery Suspects Arrested in Kisumu

Two suspects linked to a brutal gang-rape and robbery incident have been arrested by detectives in Kisumu West, in a joint operation with the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau from the Nyanza region.
The suspects had been terrorizing residents across Yala, Siaya, and Maseno, but their run came to an end following a coordinated police operation.
The crime occurred on the night of May 12, 2025. A woman and her cousin had just left Billionaires Bar and Restaurant in Kisiani Market and were headed home in a tuk-tuk.
Upon arriving at their gate in Ongallo village, a grey Toyota Axio suddenly pulled up. Three machete-wielding men emerged, abducted the woman, and sped off toward Kisiani Junction.
While the cousin managed to escape, the victim was later found abandoned at Daraja Mbili along Kiboswa Road. She had been gang-raped, and her phone and personal belongings were stolen.
Following the attack, detectives launched an intensive manhunt. Forensic leads led officers to Kisumu City Centre.
They spotted the grey Toyota Axio (registration number KDA 019U) and gave chase as it fled from Patel Junction toward Kondele. The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed.
Fredrick Oduor Ongori, the driver and suspected ringleader, was arrested at the scene. After interrogation, he led detectives to the Obunga slums, where his accomplice, John Okumu Owidhi, alias Matools, was also arrested.
Investigations revealed that both men are escaped convicts who had been on the police radar for some time.
The suspects are now in custody as authorities continue to pursue other members of the gang. They will be charged with gang-rape, robbery with violence, and escaping lawful custody.
