Two individuals have been arrested after authorities discovered more than 600 rolls of suspected cannabis during a coordinated anti-drug operation in the Kware area of Embakasi South Sub-County.

The operation, which began on Tuesday afternoon, involved officers from the National Alcohol and Drug Abuse Campaign Authority (NACADA) who received assistance from the National Police Service (NPS). The raid followed reports from residents who had raised concerns about suspected drug trafficking activities taking place near Tuimani Kindergarten School, located next to a Kenya Assemblies of God (KAG) church.

Local authorities received multiple reports from residents about the increasing prevalence of drug-related activities occurring in the neighbourhood. The suspected dealer operated his business near the school according to local residents, which raised safety concerns about students who attended school and lived in the nearby area.

Law enforcement officers conducted an intelligence-driven operation to investigate a shop and a nearby residential house, which they suspected to be operating as a distribution center for illegal drugs. NACADA officers directed the multi-agency team to search the premises in a comprehensive operation.

The raid revealed that officers discovered two suspects who were located inside the building. The pair were allegedly in the process of preparing and rolling plant material believed to be cannabis, commonly referred to as bhang, which was suspected to be intended for sale and consumption within the area.

The premises were thoroughly searched which resulted in the discovery of 680 rolls of suspected bhang. Officers discovered more plant material which they believed to be narcotic substances that were being readied for distribution after processing.

The two suspects were taken into custody immediately and police officers transported them to Kware Police Station. Authorities confirmed that they remain in police custody as investigations continue. NACADA stated that the authorities have secured the seized items which will serve as evidence once the suspects face court charges.

The operation aftermath resulted in NACADA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Anthony Omerikwa praising the public for their cooperation with officials which resulted in successful operation outcomes.

Dr. Omerikwa stated that the agency will continue its efforts to safeguard communities against both drug traffickers and people engaged in illegal drug distribution. He made it clear that NACADA will strengthen its efforts to eliminate drug trafficking organizations.

“Our determination to ensure that communities remain safe from drug traffickers and their associates remains strong,” he said. “NACADA will continue to take firm action against individuals who threaten the safety of our society.”

He raised specific concerns about drug-related activities happening close to educational institutions because these locations should function as protected environments for children and young adults.

Dr. Omerikwa further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue sharing information with authorities whenever they notice suspicious activities in their neighbourhoods. Community members who cooperate with local authorities help to fight drug trafficking and substance abuse according to him.

NACADA confirmed that enforcement operations will continue in Kware and other regions across the country as part of their ongoing drug trafficking prevention efforts which protect families and create safer communities.
