Police have arrested two suspects believed to be part of a criminal gang that has been terrorizing motorists along the Eldoret-Malaba Highway.

The suspects, identified as William Simiyu and Byron Werunga, were arrested in a joint operation conducted by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in collaboration with police from both Matete and Webuye stations.

According to the police, the two were linked to a spate of late-night robberies targeting drivers and passengers using the busy highway. After their arrest, the suspects reportedly led detectives to their hideouts in River Nzoia and Nabuyola Village, where several stolen items were recovered.

Recovered items included three gas cylinders, electronic devices, and vehicle batteries, which were believed by the police to be taken from previous highway attacks.

The two are currently in custody as investigations continue. Police have, however, confirmed that the suspects would be arraigned in court once the ongoing investigations are concluded.

Meanwhile, authorities have urged motorists to remain vigilant, especially during night travel, as the crackdown on criminal gangs operating along the highway increases.
