The 2025 Safari 7s rugby tournament has received a huge financial boost with the announcement of a Tusker brand sponsorship package worth KSh 22 million during a colorful launch at the RFUEA Grounds, Nairobi. The package includes KSh 12 million in cash and KSh 10 million in kind. Part of the in-kind contribution will go towards creating the Tusker After Party Village, a new fan zone concept that combines thrilling rugby action with top-class entertainment to offer fans an unforgettable three-day experience.
Tournament Director Kevin Wambura confirmed that this year’s event, the 27th Safari 7s, will feature a total of 20 teams. The men’s category will consist of 12 teams split into three pools, while the women’s category will comprise eight teams in two pools. The competition will kick off on Friday, October 10, with the opening matches at RFUEA Grounds. Later that evening, the highly popular veterans’ category will make a comeback under the Nyayo Stadium floodlights, bringing in a nostalgic yet exciting aspect to the competition. Saturday will stage the second and third rounds, while Sunday will conclude the tournament with the knockout phases, semi-finals, and much-awaited finals.
Speaking to the media at the launch, Christine Kariuki, Head of KBL Mainstream Beer, expressed Tusker’s pride in sponsoring the legendary rugby tournament yet again. She noted that the brand has been a long-standing partner of the Safari 7s and is extremely proud to have been associated with its consistent growth. It is both an honor and a privilege for us at Tusker to be part of the Safari 7s yet again. We have witnessed the game grow over the years and are proud to continue playing a role in its development,” she said.
Kariuki observed that Tusker’s involvement in sports goes beyond sponsorship, as it is a dedication to building unity, community spirit, and national pride through sports. The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU), on its part, promised the 2025 event would be an outstanding experience, with world-class rugby action to be combined with lively fan engagement and entertainment. Organizers of the event assured fans that this year’s competition would be one of the most memorable in Safari 7s history, with sport, music, and revelry combined in a quintessentially Kenyan fashion.
