TUKO Reporter and HubzMedia FC Goalkeeper Edmond Kipng’eno Rises to UJA Vice Chair
Colleagues describe him as approachable, energetic, and deeply connected with both fellow journalists and the wider community
Edmond Kipng’eno, digital reporter at TUKO News and official goalkeeper for HubzMedia FC, now serving as Vice Chair of the Uasin Gishu Journalists Association.
The Uasin Gishu Journalists Association (UJA) has entered a new chapter of leadership with the appointment of Edmond Kipng’eno as its Vice Chair, following the resignation of long-serving official Marius Kemboi on June 1, 2025.
Mr. Kemboi, who has been instrumental in shaping the Association over the years, stepped down to pave the way for fresh leadership but continues to lend his experience and guidance to the organization. His departure created a vacancy that many believe could only be filled by someone with both passion and fresh ideas.
Edmond’s journey into the new role is rooted in a rigorous vetting process that saw two candidates apply for the position. After fellow contender Kelvin Sang withdrew his candidature, the Association issued a three-day notice inviting objections from members. None were received, clearing the path for Edmond’s confirmation. On August 19, 2025, he officially assumed office in accordance with the UJA Constitution.
Prior to this appointment, Edmond had been serving as the Chair of the Welfare Committee within UJA, where he earned respect for his commitment to championing the interests of members and fostering unity in the Association. His elevation to Vice Chair is therefore seen as a natural progression of his leadership journey.
Colleagues describe him as approachable, energetic, and deeply connected with both fellow journalists and the wider community. His ability to interact with people from all walks of life, combined with his strong networking skills, has set him apart as a leader who can bridge gaps and create meaningful collaborations.
Currently serving as a digital reporter with TUKO News, Edmond has built a reputation as a versatile journalist with a keen understanding of the digital media space. His experience in online reporting is expected to help the Association adapt to the fast-changing media landscape while keeping journalists in Uasin Gishu at the forefront of innovation.
UJA Chairperson James Gitaka said Edmond’s leadership would also boost the Association’s growing digital platforms.
“We are confident that Edmond will not only strengthen the Association but also bring fresh energy into our digital media presence. His role will be crucial in supporting our platforms, including Hubz Media’s website (www.hubzmedia.africa), Hubz Radio, and our social media pages,” Gitaka said.
Away from the newsroom and leadership roles, Edmond is also an active sportsman. He currently serves as the official goalkeeper for HubzMedia FC, a role that further underscores his teamwork, discipline, and commitment both on and off the field.

As Edmond settles into his new role, expectations are high that he will take the Association to greater heights, strengthening partnerships and advancing the welfare of journalists across the county.
For now, his appointment marks not just a change in leadership but also a promise of renewed energy and vision within UJA.
