A three-year-old boy has died after a devastating fire razed a residential building in Kiamwathi location, Ruringu area, Nyeri County on Thursday.

According to the police report from Ruringu Police Station, the incident happened in a 25-room wooden and iron-sheet structure and was reduced to ashes by the inferno. The fire reportedly started in the house of one of the tenants, who sustained minor injuries.

Confirming the incident, police said that the child was burnt beyond recognition and succumbed to injuries at the scene. “The minor was completely burnt and could not be identified,” the report stated.

Another tenant was badly burned and was taken to the Nyeri Provincial General Hospital, PGH, together with the first tenant, for treatment. Authorities have confirmed that the two adults are in a stable condition.

Emergency response teams arrived at the scene, including several officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the National Government Administrative Officers, and members of the Kenya Red Cross, to help rescue people and establish the extent of the damage.

The body of the child was moved to the Nyeri PGH mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted. “The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Investigations are ongoing to establish what sparked the blaze,” police added.

In another incident, police in Bungoma County recovered the body of a man identified as 58-year-old Titus Kwemoi from a maize plantation in Kaptama. The body was found with bleeding visible from the mouth on Thursday. The motive behind the killing, according to officers, is not yet clear as the body was transferred for autopsy at the mortuary.

Elsewhere in Misikhu, also in Bungoma County, the body of 41-year-old Moris Wekesa was found floating in River Nzoia at Stabicha village. According to police, the deceased had deep cuts on the head and neck, suggesting foul play. “Preliminary investigations show that the victim may have been murdered elsewhere before being dumped into the river,” an officer at the scene said. Investigations are underway to trace those behind the killing.

Meanwhile, four police officers were injured in a road accident along the Kolowa–Chemolingot Road on November 5, 2025. The officers were attached to GSU headquarters and were traveling to Chemolingot when their lorry veered off the road and landed in a ditch. The explosion also injured two female civilians who had hitched a ride on the vehicle. Police said all six victims were treated in hospital and later discharged in stable condition.
