Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a suspect linked to a violent robbery in Parklands, Nairobi, after a video showing the incident circulated widely on social media.
The suspect, identified as Obed Makori, was arrested along the Northern Bypass following investigations and intelligence that linked him to the attack.
According to the DCI, Makori was captured in the viral footage alongside several accomplices assaulting a member of the public before stealing his valuables and fleeing the scene.
During the robbery, the suspect allegedly dropped a firearm, which was recovered by police and secured as an exhibit to support investigations.
Makori had remained at large following the incident, evading arrest until detectives tracked him down in the latest operation.
The suspect is currently in police custody undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment in court.
Meanwhile, detectives are pursuing further leads to identify, trace and arrest the other suspects believed to have participated in the robbery. The accomplices remain at large as investigations continue.
The arrest comes amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to track down individuals involved in violent crimes in Nairobi and other parts of the country.
The DCI said it remains committed to pursuing violent offenders, dismantling criminal networks and ensuring that those responsible for attacks on members of the public face the law.
Police have continued to rely on intelligence-led operations and evidence gathered during investigations to identify suspects and bring them before the courts.
Authorities are expected to continue with investigations into the Parklands robbery as detectives work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack and apprehend the remaining suspects.
