President William Ruto has offered unmatched financial incentives for the national team Harambee Stars as they prepare to feature in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). The President pledged a staggering KSh600 million reward if the team captures the championship title.
Addressing a breakfast session with the players and coaches at Pullman Hotel in Nairobi, President Ruto provided a graduated reward system that was meant to encourage the team during the one-month tournament. The rewards are KSh60 million for making it to the quarter-finals, KSh70 million for advancement to the semi-finals, and KSh90 million for making it to the finals. Furthermore, the players will get KSh1 million for each victory per match and KSh500,000 for each draw.
“Ladies and gentlemen, this is a revolution in Kenyan football. We’ve enhanced the incentives multiple times to ensure that every player gives their best on the pitch,” Ruto said at the Saturday event, a day before Kenya’s first game against the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
