Ruto Mourns Ghana Ministers Killed in Crash

In a message he shared on his official X account on Thursday, August 7, 2025, Ruto sent deepest sympathy to President John Mahama, the government, and people of Ghana.
He also sent condolence to the affected families who lost their loved ones in the crash.
We send our deepest condolences to President Mahama, the government, and the people of Ghana. Our hearts and prayers are with the grieving families,” Ruto posted.
He expressed Kenya’s solidarity and support with Ghana at this time of sorrow.
The official report is that the accident occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
Five passengers and three crew members were on board a military helicopter that went missing just after it took off from Accra.
It was headed to Obuasi where it was to witness a government event aimed at curbing illegal mining.
Among those on board were Defence Minister Edward Omane and Environment, Science and Technology Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.
The helicopter later crashed and killed all eight people on it.
The remains were retrieved by the military and brought to Accra.
The Ghana Armed Forces confirmed the accident and indicated that investigations had begun to determine the cause.
In response to the tragedy, President Mahama canceled all public appearances for the rest of the week.
He also declared three days of national mourning beginning from Thursday.
The Chief of Staff directed all national flags to be flown at half-mast.
The government also gave the servicemen who died while on duty a tribute.
Ruto’s condolence message is timed when Ghana is facing one of its black moments in recent history.
The country was rocked by the sad news and embarked on massive mourning.
Though investigations are still on course, Africans and the country’s leaders join in the grief.
How the crash occurred remains a mystery, but authorities are set to figure out what transpired.
Meanwhile, the country continues to honor the lives lost while serving their country.
