President William Ruto on Thursday met Ugandan Vice President Jessica Alupo on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, with the two leaders discussing Kenya-Uganda relations and regional cooperation.
The meeting focused on strengthening the longstanding partnership between the two neighbouring countries and advancing areas of mutual interest for the benefit of their citizens.
President Ruto said Kenya and Uganda would continue working together through the East African Community (EAC) to deepen regional integration and strengthen economic ties.
He said the two countries would seek to expand trade and investment while taking advantage of opportunities created by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Ruto also highlighted the importance of cooperation between Kenya and Uganda at continental and multilateral forums.
The President said the two countries had agreed to work together in advancing Africa’s shared interests and supporting efforts towards a more prosperous and integrated continent.
Kenya and Uganda maintain close economic and diplomatic relations, with Uganda serving as one of Kenya’s key trading partners in the region.
The two countries are also members of the EAC, where they have continued to participate in efforts aimed at promoting the free movement of goods, services, people and capital across the region.
