President William Ruto has congratulated Harambee Stars for their outstanding performance at the ongoing Pamoja African Nations Championship (CHAN). Kenya’s campaign ended at the quarter-final stage after losing a penalty shootout to Madagascar in Kasarani Stadium on Friday.

In a X message, the President praised the team’s performance saying that they had shut down critics and rebuilt national pride. The President referred to the penalty loss as not a shame but rather a sign of greatness and courage.

“Harambee Stars gave us a wonderful ride,” Ruto said. “They left cynics aghast, lifted the country’s mood, and demonstrated that courage and determination can achieve the impossible. We lost in the quarterfinals, yes, but we fought to the bitter end. To lose on penalties is no discredit; to push the game to such a level is a badge of distinction in itself.”

The President also commended Madagascar for their achievement, but he encouraged Kenyans to continue supporting the tournament. He reminded the people that the nation is still a proud co-host of the historic Pamoja CHAN and requested them to continue packing Kasarani Stadium with pride and energy.

“Even as we exit the tournament, we remain proud hosts,” he went on. “Let us sing with passion and follow the game to the last whistle.”

Ruto also focused on the future of football in Kenya. He urged Harambee Stars to learn from their experience since the nation is ready for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations that Kenya will co-host.

“Kenya shall rise. Kenya shall triumph,” he swore confidently.

The Madagascar game was closely fought. The game was 1-1 in normal and extra time, and they decided the game through penalties. Madagascar remained calm and won 4-3 to go through to the semi-finals.

For Harambee Stars, the ride may have ended earlier than they wanted, but the President was unwilling to accept the fact that their performance marked a new beginning. The President reiterated that the players had motivated Kenya, shown resilience, and given the people a reason to believe in Kenyan football once more.

The Pamoja CHAN continues, and with Kenya as co-host, Ruto reminded people that the spirit of the game stretches beyond victories on the pitch.
