Romelu Lukaku has finally set the record straight on his rocky relationship with Chelsea, revealing that he never asked to leave after returning from his loan spell at Inter Milan.

In a candid statement, Lukaku recalled the moment he rejoined Chelsea following Inter’s Champions League final appearance in 2023.

“After the UCL final with Inter, I went back to Chelsea,” he said. “I told them I wanted a chance again with the first team.”

But instead of getting that opportunity, Lukaku says he was demoted.

“They sent me to the reserves,” he revealed. “And what comes out in the media? ‘Lukaku wants to leave.’ No, I didn’t want to leave.”

The Belgian striker’s comments paint a very different picture from the narrative that dominated headlines at the time, suggesting a deeper disconnect between player and club management.

This latest revelation adds fuel to the ongoing debate about Chelsea’s handling of high-profile stars and their transparency with fans. Lukaku’s future remains uncertain, but one thing is now clear — he believes the club shut the door before he could even step through it.
