The appointment of 50 CASs that sparked a conversation among Kenyans at a time when the country is faced with different economic and social issues, A section of  Rift valley legislators led by Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago have come out to defend President William Ruto on the said appointments.

The former county head defended this move citing the need for human capital who will oversee a cusp in economic transformation under Kenya Kwanza manifesto.

“We have to be a little bit serious. There is work that needs to be done. Certainly, we are not an economy or a nation that has reached the status of getting robots to work for us. For the time being we need some Kenyans, with some skills to be able to support this agenda of transformation. Therefore, the issue of a bloated cabinet is just a scapegoat for those who just want to castigate this administration.” Noted Jackson Mandago.

Accusing those against the appointments of searching for a scapegoat to blame the government while understating the work that needs to be done, the senator highlighted the number of personnel need to be hired for the economy to be rebuilt.

“If you say we cannot hire because our economy is doing bad, what do you say about the shortage of health workers, are you also telling us that we should not hire teachers? Because we have a serious economic crisis. The place for human resource in rebuilding this economy remains and we cannot rebuild without human capital. We need the necessary human capital in place to be able to roll out this innovative idea of transforming our economy. If you ask me, I’ll tell you this is just a stooge talking about a bloated government and so on.” He added.

The senator went ahead to state the limited time available for work in every regime while calling on the appointed persons to do the work required of them because parliament will be there to hold to account those given the different responsibilities.

“Every cycle of 5 years as a nation, we are only left with 2 years to work. In essence as a nation, we always lose 6 years of unhealthy politics that we engage in. so every 10 years we always have 4 years to work for the people. Therefore, because we want to bring back the economy within a short time, we need men and women with capacity to assist the executive, to make sure they deliver on the agenda. On our part as parliament we are telling the people given that opportunity, they have to work. We have assured the president, parliament will hold to account all the people he assigned to various roles. We shall call you out when there is laxity in performance because we don’t have the luxury of time of people enjoying the trappings of positions without delivering to Kenyans.” Remarked Mandago.

President William Ruto nominated 50 Chief Administrative Secretaries to serve in his government. This is after they successfully went through vigorous interviews conducted by the Public Service Commission. The nominees will be vetted by the National Assembly before appointment by the President.
