Renowned Gospel Singer Betty Bayo Passes Away

The Kenyan gospel industry has lost one of its beloved voices. The family of celebrated gospel artiste Betty Bayo, renowned for hits such as “11th Hour”, confirmed her death on Monday morning. The singer passed away due to complications brought about by leukemia at Kenyatta National Hospital and has left fans and the entire music fraternity mourning.
A representative for the family said Bayo had been battling health complications over the past few weeks. She had first been admitted at AAR Hospital in Kiambu Road but was transferred to KNH for specialized care. Her condition worsened on arrival, necessitating immediate medical attention.
“Betty was suffering from excessive bleeding. The doctors did everything possible to stabilize her, but ultimately, it was God’s will that she passed on,” the family representative said. She spoke in the presence of Bayo’s partner and close family members, reflecting the deep sense of loss felt by those who were closest to the singer.
The contribution of Betty Bayo to the Kenyan gospel scene has been celebrated by many. She gained prominence with her soul-filled voice and inspiring performances, commanded a huge following both locally and regionally. The family has confirmed that Betty’s body will be transferred to Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary as the arrangements for burial and the memorial service kick off.
