Public urged to hold leaders accountable on service delivery

Members of the Public In Uasin Gishu County and the  North rift region  have  been urged  to  demand  for  better  service  delivery  from both County  and   National Government officers,

 

 

 

The  URAI-UNDP in collaboration with the  Rural Women Peace Link Thursday held  a Forum with State  and  non- state  actors to discuss the  available accountability tools  that  can be used to promote  governance  and  accountability in the management of  Public  resources  while  holding leaders  accountable on service  delivery.

 

 

 

Collins Lutah An Officer  with the Rural Women Peace  Link Organization noted  that there  was  need  to empower members of the  public  with the legal knowledge  that can be used through a  litigation process  to demand  better  service  delivery,

 

 

 

“This program is about consolidating  democratic  dividend for  sustainable transformation in Kenya,  We want to see that there is accountability between the service providers across board, Ensure that    departments Within the County Governments  are providing adequate services  to the as is  required by law and  as  is  expected  of  them” Said Lutah.

 

 

 

Lutah further added that they are also looking into the legal frame works including the laws that are available for the  people to  engage  with the county governments, we  are  also  explaining how  the law  supports the  mwananchi  to engage  with the  county governments  through Public  participation,

 

 

 

In addition the forum that also brought together civil society organizations and journalists explored the available tools for social accountability including the community score cards so as to enable the public to evaluate the services being provided by the county governments.

“We are  looking at what  responsibility  the  mwananchi has , as  governors put their governments  into place , we  want  to see a  system where  these governments are working  closely with mwananchi because  we  have harmonized the  governors  manifestos  and  the people’s needs , we  are  looking at  where  wananchi are  getting  services be  it  in the health sector , are  dispensaries well stocked with  drugs do we have enough human resource in those facilities , these  are  the  areas we  are  keen about”Said  Luta.

 

 

 

Lutah noted that they will be working closely with other organizations such as Transparency International, Civil Society’ the Media among other organizations to ensure that service delivery is optimized at the grass root level.
