He recognized the interconnection between housing and agriculture which is presently the country’s top revenue earner and indicated that with proper management of this connection will lead to a positive shift in sustainability.

“This whole project will ensure we do not engage land meant for agricultural production for human settlement, we will leverage our resources in a manner that benefits all. It is the way forward for our economy,” Ruto noted.

President Ruto added that the Government identifies affordable housing as an urgency earmarked for low-income earners “because it will make even Mama Mboga and boda boda own a house in Nairobi”.

“All hustlers will be the front line beneficiaries in this program in the different levels among them social housing and rent-to-own housing,” Ruto assured Kenyans.

The plan to build more than 200,000 houses annually as explained is intentional in addressing the unemployment crisis facing the youth creating employment opportunities.

This comes in the backdrop of registration of landlords in the country’s capital in an effort to elevate money to finance the 2023/24 budget in which the new administration plans to cut expenditure by Ksh.300B.
