National Police Service (NPS) has published a traffic advisory for Nairobi before Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) quarterfinal Harambee Stars against Madagascar. The match will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

According to the statement, other roads around Kasarani and along Thika Superhighway will be diverted or closed to manage the expected traffic. Police requested drivers to prepare in good time for their journeys in a bid to prevent jamming.

Motorists traveling out of Nairobi Central Business District and headed to Thika, Juja, or Ruiru through Thika Road will be kept out of the main highway. They should instead turn out at Muthaiga at Exit 4 and use Kiambu Road. There will also be a police roadblock at Muthaiga to divert traffic.

Drivers on Thika Superhighway heading to Mwiki are being advised to take the Ruaka–Baba Ndogo–Lucky Summer–Nairobi River–Mwiki alternative route. Traffic from Thika, Juja, and Ruiru proceeding to the city centre has to either take Kiambu Road or Northern Bypass. At Ruiru Interchange, there will be a roadblock.

Travelers from Githurai to Nairobi CBD are advised to use the Githurai 44–Kiambu Road route instead of the Thika Superhighway.

NPS further stated that additional police officers will be used to enforce the temporary traffic changes. The officers will also patrol the area around the stadium to ensure there is orderly movement of cars and fans. The service further stated that anyone caught violating the traffic regulations will be treated sternly.

The National Police Service is closely working with other institutions that are involved. Drivers and supporters are urged to support fully police officers to ensure they have free traffic flow and improved security during the match,” a part of the statement stated.

The quarterfinal match is most probably going to draw thousands of supporters as Kenya is set to advance in the CHAN tournament.
