DM has categorically refuted claims that Siaya Governor James Orengo has quit, citing that an online circulating resignation letter is fake.

In a statement released on Monday, ODM confirmed the letter is fake. “We can AUTHORITATIVELY say that the letter below is FAKE. Ignore it and FOCUS,” the party posted on its official X account.

The doctored letter has fueled rumor of Governor Orengo’s disappearance, as his absence from public events has continued to raise eyebrows among residents and political observers.

Governor Orengo was last spotted attending a public event on June 5 at State House in Nairobi. During that outing, he was among the Siaya leaders who met with President William Ruto. Since then, he has not attended a public event, which has sparked rumors of his political fate.

Although he is not physically there, Orengo’s official X account remains active. Posts on the account still include county development projects and government initiatives. This has calmed followers that he is still busy with leadership duties.

On July 25, Orengo himself made a personal update about spending the afternoon with friends, Mr. and Mrs. K.V. Rao. He also shared some photos from the visit, which shows that he is still engaged in personal and social commitments.

ODM has requested the public to disregard the fake resignation letter and not spread misinformation. The party insists Governor Orengo is still in office and carrying out his duties.

Political analysts have pointed out that such forged letters can create unnecessary tension and confusion in the political arena. ODM has called for responsible use of social media and verification before posting.

Siaya citizens have responded differently to the governor’s prolonged absence. While some believe that he might be sick or grappling with personal problems, others remain resolute that he is conducting county affairs behind the scenes.

ODM maintains that Governor Orengo remains devoted to his role and will continue to lead development projects in Siaya. The party promised to release formal communication in case of any alteration in the county government leadership legally.
