Nyamira governor, Mr. Amos Nyaribo, on Sunday, December 14, 2025, paid a visit to the survivors of a tragic road accident at Nyamira County Referral Hospital. The visit came after a deadly crash occurred on Saturday evening along the Nyamira–Ikonge road, resulting in the death of eight people and leaving others injured. The two-day accident is among the most fatal road accidents recorded in the region and country this month.

While on a visit to the hospital, Governor Nyaribo described the accident as devastating and very painful, since many people were just a short moment away from disembarking at the main stage in Nyamira Town when this tragic event occurred. The governor sent his condolences to the families that lost their loved ones in this tragic event and promised them all support during this sad time.

“This is a very tragic incident. We have lost our brothers and sisters in a manner that is truly heartbreaking. On behalf of the county government and people of Nyamira, I convey our sincere condolences to the bereaved families,” Governor Nyaribo stated.

The governor also took time to mingle with the survivors, most of whom are getting treatment at the referral hospital. He wished them a speedy and complete recovery, appreciating the quick response by medical staff to those injured.

Governor Nyaribo revealed that a special committee will be formed by the county government to work with the affected families. “We have formed a committee that will assist in coordinating burials, among other support,” Governor Nyaribo stated.

“My government will establish a special committee which will work in conjunction with affected families to make sure they have support, especially in preparing for burials. Our government is with them in this time of sorrow,” he assured.

Further, the governor promised to help patients who have been referred for specialized treatment outside the county. The governor stated that the county will assist especially those with neurological surgeries because of head injuries they got resulting from the accident.

“We will also make sure that those who have been advised to go for specialized neurological treatment are assisted in order to access the treatment they need,” Governor Nyaribo added.

The administrators of the hospital have briefed the governor on the status of patients being treated for their injuries. Some of these patients are in a critical state and have been under intense medical observation by medical staff at the hospital.

The presence of the governor was welcomed by the families of the affected victims, and this can be attributed to the solidarity and support offered by the county government. Other guests accompanying the governor emphasized a need for road safety on the Nyamira to Ikonge road, which in the past has recorded a number of accidents. As investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing, Governor Nyaribo urged all motorists to be very cautious and to obey road safety rules in order to avoid such tragic occurrences in future. The county government, according to Governor Nyaribo, will continue working in tandem with the national government to make the roads in their county safe.
