Nominated Member of Parliament Denar Joseph Hamisi is no more. His death was reported early Saturday morning, December 6, 2025, at approximately 7:00 am. His sudden demise was confirmed through an official statement from the office of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula. The Speaker did not reveal the cause of his death but described the loss as a major blow to Parliament and the nation at large.
Hamisi, who entered the National Assembly after being nominated by the Amani National Congress (ANC) following the 2022 General Election, was an active member of two critical committees: the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture, and the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities.
In his tribute, Speaker Wetang’ula praised the late legislator for his humility, dedication to duty, and leadership by example, stating that Hamisi’s work ethic and calm demeanour earned him respect across the political divide. He noted that the MP’s contributions had enriched parliamentary debate and strengthened national unity efforts.
“On behalf of members and staff of the National Assembly and on my own behalf, I extend sincere condolences to the family, friends, and all who had the privilege of experiencing the late Hon. Denar’s humility and steadfast commitment to serving the nation,” Wetang’ula said.
To support the grieving family, the Speaker appointed a committee of legislators led by Deputy Majority Leader Owen Baya to liaise with relatives to ensure a decent sendoff for the late MP.
Born in 1969 in Kinango, Kwale County, Hamisi pursued his early education at Mombasa Baptist High School, studying from 1984 to 1989. He later advanced his studies, earning a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management from the United States International University–Africa (USIU-A) in 2000 before proceeding for a Master of International Business Administration, which he completed in 2002. He further broadened his academic credentials by obtaining a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi in 2006.
Before joining elective politics, Hamisi distinguished himself in both public service and corporate leadership. His career included serving as a Director at the Coast Development Authority between 2007 and 2010 and as a Commissioner at the former Electoral Commission of Kenya between 2007 and 2008. He also held board-level positions at the Kenya Airports Authority from 2009 to 2012 and at the Kenya National Accreditation Services between 2011 and 2012.
His leadership extended into academia, too, since he served as a Council Member at the University of Nairobi from 2013 to 2018 and later at Moi University from 2021 to 2022. The late MP is being remembered as a dedicated public servant whose service career spanned multiple sectors and whose commitment to national development will be greatly missed.
