The National Fund for the Disabled of Kenya (NFDK) has provided Sh3.7 million worth of assistive devices and vocational tools to disabled individuals from Garissa, Mandera, and Wajir counties in the North Eastern region.

The donations were handed over during an event held at the government guest house in Garissa town which brought together beneficiaries from the three counties.

The NFDK Programmes Committee Chairperson Prof. Julia Ojiambo delivered a speech at the ceremony that explained how the program aims to help persons with disabilities become more independent and able to cope with life challenges. She mentioned that empowering beneficiaries will help them achieve their needs through sustainable and dignified methods which will decrease their need for assistance from others.

The provided items included wheelchairs and walking crutches and car wash equipment and sewing machines and welding machines and other assistive tools and income-generating equipment.

Prof. Ojiambo explained that the initiative exists to enhance social and economic conditions for persons with disabilities. The organization provides assistive devices and vocational tools which enable individuals to create their own livelihood and become active members of society.

The fund provides financial support to organizations which assist disabled students as part of its comprehensive strategy to empower disabled individuals.

Prof. Ojiambo urged beneficiaries to put the donated items to proper use so they can make a meaningful difference in their lives. She encouraged them to use the tools and grants for their intended purposes to create long-term benefits for themselves, their families, and their communities.

The process of achieving disability inclusion needs various groups to work together. All institutional needs require multiple organizations to work together for successful resolution.

The NFDK chairperson called for closer cooperation between national and county governments and development partners and community leaders and families and persons with disabilities to establish inclusive development.

The donation will enable recipients to move freely while opening pathways for them to earn money and it will lead to better living conditions for all residents of the three counties.
