Naivas Supermarket has moved swiftly to address what it terms as “false and misleading” claims circulating on social media about the sale of expired products and the alleged closure of its Nairobi branches.

In a strongly worded press release issued on May 14, the popular retailer reassured customers and partners that no expired items had been discovered on their shelves.

The company emphasized that it maintains rigorous internal quality checks and stock management systems in line with health regulations.

“All our stores are fully operational and compliant with national and county-level standards,” the statement read, referencing oversight by bodies such as the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and the Ministry of Health.

Naivas also made it clear that none of its Nairobi outlets had been shut down by any regulatory or health authorities. The company labeled the circulating claims as harmful and warned that it is taking legal action against individuals and organizations responsible for spreading the misinformation.

In addition, Naivas highlighted its zero-tolerance policy on corruption and extortion, stating that it will not yield to intimidation.

“We remain committed to providing safe and reliable products to our customers,” the statement concluded.
