Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital MTRH has given a public notice where it has announced that there are 73 unknown and unclaimed bodies of deceased persons and 52 unidentified bodies lying at the Farewell Home of the hospital.

The management, in a statement, urged relatives and members of the public to come forward to help identify and collect the bodies within seven days from the date of the notice.

According to MTRH, the exercise is being conducted in line with the Public Health Act Cap 242 and the Public Health (Public Mortuaries) Rules 1991, which require public health institutions to dispose of unclaimed bodies on due notice to the public.

“Relatives and friends of the deceased are hereby requested to go to MTRH Farewell Home to identify and collect the bodies within the stipulated time. Any unclaimed body remaining after the expiry of this period will be disposed of in accordance with the law and existing public health regulations,” said the hospital in its notice.

Management further stated that the list of the unclaimed bodies has been made available at the MTRH Farewell Home and can also be accessed on the hospital’s official website at www.mtrh.go.ke/public-notice.
