Moi University partners with the EACC in a pilot program aimed at promoting financial management and procurement processes

The Ethics and Anti- corruption Commission is collaborating with The Moi University Eldoret in a program aimed at curbing loopholes found in the financial management and procurement processes that often lead to mismanagement and embezzlement of Public finances within the various High learning institutions.
The North Rift Regional EACC Manager Japheth Baithalu says that the partnership will also see the review of procedures as well as the human resource and other policies with the objective of promoting transparency and accountability in the management of Moi University.
“This is a pilot project that we have initiate d here today and if successfully implemented it shall be rolled out to other Public Universities and institutions of Higher learning,” Said Baithalu

According to Prof Isaac Sanga Kosgei the Vice Chancellor Moi University ,the program has developed tailor-made solutions to the myriad of challenges that have bedeviled Moi University over the years, and it will promote better management and steer the University to its former glory .
“We have met with The EACC so that we can develop a better system that will enhance service delivery in our institution and we are pleased that Moi University was chosen to implement the pilot project , we are sure it will be successful and other institutions will indeed benefit immensely from this project,” Kosgei noted.
Neema Mukorori, The Deputy Director Preventive Services at the EACC has noted that the main aim of the commission was to ensure institutions such as The Moi University are properly empowered to curb corruption and ensure proper use of Public resources.
“One of our mandates is Preventive measures to rescue institutions such as Moi University from the common problem of corruption and we look forward to helping Universities across the county prevent corruption”, said Mukorori.
In 2016,Moi University had faced questionable financial conduct when an audit revealed that Ksh1 Billion could not be accounted for.
Then then Auditor General,Edward Ouko disclosed that Moi University was operating 56 bank accounts and had 505 ghost workers paid ksh541 million in the period between 2013 and 2016.
